Bayelsa State House Committee on Health Commends Successful Implementation of BHIS

The implementation of the Bayelsa Health Insurance Scheme has attracted the commendation of the Bayelsa State House Committee on Health.

Dr. Godbless Oyinke, Chairman, Bayelsa State House Committee on Health gave the commendation when he led other members of the committee on an oversight visit to the Bayelsa Health Insurance House to meet with the management of the Scheme.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dr. Oyinke who noted that the Bayelsa Health Insurance Scheme is one of the most effective programmes of the state government also commended the management of the scheme for taking extra steps to ensure that the private sector irrespective of their social status are covered under the scheme.

In her welcome speech, the Chairperson of the Bayelsa Health Insurance Scheme Board, Prof. Onyaye Kunle-Olowu thanked the House Committee on Health for the visit, expressing believe that the visit will give the members of the committee a better understanding of the operations of the scheme.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In his speech, Dr. Zuoboemi Agadah said the mandate of the scheme is to ensure that all residents of Bayelsa state have access to healthcare services that are affordable, effective, efficient and of good quality.
 
Dr. Agadah noted that the operations of the scheme have reached advanced stage, stressing that recently, leaderships of various unions in the state such as the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, Private School Owners, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Higher Institutions and others have agreed to integrate their members into the scheme.

He disclosed that as at the end of December, 2022 the scheme has registered a total member of 127,273 enrolees outside the 23,346 enrolees registered under the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF) meant for the vulnerable.

He went further to state that the scheme has also carried out a total number of 6,239 different types of surgeries from inception to December, 2022 including 885,700 hospital attendance with 109 accredited healthcare facilities under the scheme, noting that the scheme can only get better with the cooperation of all stakeholders.
